With the news that Jose Iglesias will miss most of the season, the Tigers were in the market for a shortstop, and they reportedly landed one on Monday, acquiring veteran Alex Gonzalez from the Orioles in exchange for utility infielder Steve Lombardozzi, according to Dan Connolly of The Baltimore Sun.

Gonzalez, 37, has played 15 major league seasons for six teams — the Marlins, Braves, Reds, Red Sox, Brewers and Blue Jays — and won the 2003 World Series with Florida. He is a career .246 hitter with 157 homers and 688 RBIs, but he hit only .177 in 41 games for Milwaukee last season.

Gonzalez has played 1,539 games at shortstop but only 27 of them have come the last two seasons.

The trade comes only three days after Detroit acquired shortstop Andrew Romine from the Angels.

Lombardozzi, 25, played the last three seasons for the Nationals. The Maryland native is a career .264 hitter with five homers and 50 RBIs. He may see time at third base with Manny Machado on the DL to start the season.
