Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino has gone back on the disabled list with a right hamstring strain, the team announced before Saturday's game in Tampa Bay.

Boston recalled Daniel Nava from Triple-A Pawtucket to fill his spot on the 25-man roster.

Victorino, 33, injured the hamstring in the final spring training game on March 30. He has played 21 games since his return, hitting .242 with a homer and 10 RBIs. He re-injured the hamstring Friday night.

"We still think it's not as severe," manager John Farrell said about Victorino's first DL stint. "But with the other situations we're also managing, his was the most clear-cut in need of some downtime. So he's on the DL."

A two-time All-Star, Victorino had a strong season last year — his first in Boston — with 15 homers and 61 RBIs in 122 games. He has a .771 career OPS in 11 MLB seasons with the Padres (2003), Phillies (2005-12), Dodgers (2012) and Red Sox.

The Red Sox (20-27) had lost eight straight games going into Saturday's game, and the defending World Series champs were in last place in the AL East.
