Jaguars Coach Doug Pederson Cuts Son Josh on Roster Deadline Day

NFL cut day is always a difficult time for coaches, as they have to let go of players with whom they developed a strong relationship. However, Tuesday must have been especially tough for Jaguars coach Doug Pederson, who waived a player close to his heart.

The Jaguars announced that tight end Josh Pederson, Doug Pederson’s son, was waived as part of the team’s cut to get to a 53-man roster. The younger Pederson was an undrafted free agent out of Louisiana-Monroe in 2021 who has bounced around in his career, spending time with the 49ers, Saints and Chiefs. He even played for the Houston Gamblers of the USFL this Spring before his contract ended in June.

The Jaguars waived Doug Pederson’s son as part of their roster cut down to 53.

On top of playing tight end, Pederson also gave the Jaguars some depth at long snapper in the summer. However, Ross Matsick has had Jacksonville’s long snapper job locked up since 2020.

Despite his journeyman status, Josh Pederson has yet to appear in a regular season game in the NFL.
