In this story:

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers just joined the team this week, and he has not played in the NFL since 2020.

However, it appears Rivers is available to play and likely start on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.

This was noted by Stephen Holder and Adam Schefter earlier in the week, a crazy turnaround for the former star quarterback.

Oddsmakers at DraftKings have set the Colts as 13.5-point road underdogs in this game, as they've lost multiple games in a row and are in danger of missing the playoffs.

FanDuel recently made Rivers the No. 3 choice to win the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year in its latest odds -- even though he has not appeared in a single game this season.

Rivers led the Colts to an 11-5 record in 16 starts in the 2020 season, completing 68.0 percent of his passes for 4,169 yards, 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He's compiled a 134-106 record as a starter in the NFL, but it's hard to expect much from a player that has not been on an NFL field in five years.

Earlier this week, SI Betting's Iain MacMillan shared his favorite bet for this game in his Road to 272 column, and he's backing Seattle to cover, although he made his pick before Rivers was signed:

The Colts are technically still alive for a playoff spot, but for all intents and purposes, their season is over. Their defense has regressed, and now they're not only down Daniel Jones, but Anthony Richardson is on the IR, and Riley Leonard is questionable for Week 15. That means they may have to start their practice squad quarterback, Brett Rypien. That's terrible news now that they take on a Seahawks team that leads the league in net yards per play and DVOA.

Not only that, but the Seahawks' defense ranks in the top three in opponent rush EPA, opponent rush success rate, and opponent yards per carry, which means they are well-equipped to shut down the Colts' rush attack, the only thing they have going for them. The Seahawks may win this one running away.

Still, it's hard to expect the 44-year-old to change much for Indy in this matchup. I'd back Seattle to win pretty easily at home.
