David Dejulius: 'I Won't Be Doing Senior Night'

The senior guard has a big decision still to make about his college basketball future.

CINCINNATI — David Dejulius is a true senior—but he has one more year of eligibility thanks to the pandemic, and that's the biggest reason why he won't partake in all of the Senior Night festivities this coming Saturday.

The Bearcats' leading scorer discussed the big night with the media following Wednesday's 75-61 loss to UCF.

"I won't be doing Senior Night," Dejulius said after the game. "I haven't decided as far as next year, and I don't want to have that hanging over the team's head or my head. I'm gonna get my frame, but I decided to take a pass on (Senior Night)."

Dejulius is averaging a team-high 14.7 points per game and is 20th among all AAC players this season with a 52.1 true shooting percentage. Cincinnati only has three recruits signed for next season, and the pandemic is the biggest reason the class isn't one or two players larger.

Dejulius and John Newman III can both return for another year if they decide to, and Cincinnati is likely to use the transfer portal again. Sage Tolentino, Josh Reed, and Daniel Skillings are all frontcourt players, giving weight to the theory that Cincinnati won't lose any pieces of its backcourt save for walk-on Sam Martin.

Mason Madsen, Mike Saunders, Mika Adams-Woods, Jeremiah Davenport, A.J. McGinnis, and C.J. Anthony are the other backcourt pieces on this roster. All of them have multiple years of eligibility remaining.

Time will tell just how much of this 2021-22 roster sticks around for another season and much higher expectation in 2022-23. Cincinnati tips off Senior Night against South Florida on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET. The game is airing on ESPN+.
