Jarron Cumberland Named MVP of G League Showcase Cup

The forward played for Cincinnati from 2016-20.

CINCINNATI — UC has had a pair of former players sign with NBA teams over the past week, and another one is well on their way if he keeps up his current level of play.

Delaware Blue Coats forward Jarron Cumberland balled out at the G League Showcase and earned Showcase Cup MVP honors. He poured in 24 points (five three-pointers), eight rebounds, and six assists to help his team capture the title.

Earlier this week, Cumberland sparked the run with his first professional triple-double (17 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, two steals).

Cumberland took full advantage of his massive opportunity at the G League Showcase in Las Vegas. The entire NBA scouting community has been in town to watch the next crop of young, fledgling NBA talent.

With the Omicron variant surging around the country, NBA teams are getting more desperate for available talent. No NBA team has signed Cumberland as of this writing, but it could happen soon with teams currently needing upwards of 20 rostered players in some cases.

Cumberland is tenth all-time in games played at UC (133) and was the AAC Player of the Year in 2019. He is fifth all-time in career victories (105) and seventh all-time in assists (415). He played for Cincinnati from 2016-20.
