The Cincinnati Bengals Take a UC Bearcat in Dane Brugler's Mock Draft 1.0
CINCINNATI — The Athletic's Dane Brugler revealed his first Mock Draft of the season, and UC cornerback Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner didn't leave the 513.
Brugler slotted the coverage maven to the Cincinnati Bengals at No. 24.
"If the Bengals look to bolster their cornerback depth chart in the draft," Brugler wrote. "They will have a few options in their own back yard. Gardner is a tall, long athlete who can flip his hips and stay on top of routes. Shifty route-runners will give him trouble at times, but he has been a lockdown player in college with zero touchdowns allowed on his watch."
Gardner is one of the best cornerbacks in the country and never allows big plays. According to PFF, quarterbacks are targeting Gardner just 2.7 times per game in 2021. He's allowed a 20.8 passer rating on those throws.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound corner plays his final game at Nippert Stadium on Saturday. The Bearcats kickoff against No. 24 Houston at 4 p.m. ET on ABC.
