As Florida State works toward roster continuity ahead of the 2026 season, the staff is still navigating a few moving pieces. The current NCAA Transfer Portal has created an unpredictable offseason in Tallahassee, Florida, as the program adjusts to an ever-changing landscape.

The Seminoles received a dose of clarity on Thursday when two key defenders announced they would remain with the program. The move only further solidifies a fluent position of need heading into next season.

Both Mandrell and Darryll Desir announced their intentions to transfer from Florida State earlier this month after spending one season with the program. Mandrell was named a True Freshman All-American by On3 Sports, and Darryll totaled 23 tackles and a sack this past season. The two were shaping up to be building blocks on an already depleted defensive roster.

After a chaotic process that saw the two officially appear in the transfer database, Their decision to reverse course and return adds some validity to the trajectory of the Florida State program. Fellow true freshman Kevin Wynn exited the portal earlier this week as well.

Florida State will be looking to land more assistance to help free the Desir twins' pass rush, as Darrell Jackson is headed to the professional level. While most of the defensive losses to the portal and NFL have been players with little to no production, the Seminoles will need to retain more building blocks and standout players moving forward.
