SI All-American Nominee Hunter Sallis Picks Gonzaga

Sallis becomes the second commitment from the 2021 class for Mark Few.

Gonzaga is the heavy favorite to win the national title this season, but on Friday they added a piece for next season that could put them in the hunt for a title once again.

Millard North (Omaha, Neb.) combo guard Hunter Sallis picked the Bulldogs over Kentucky, North Carolina, Iowa State, Kansas, Creighton, UCLA and Oregon.

The Zags were the only team to host Sallis for an official visit before the recruiting dead period went into effect last March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sallis, who is ranked No. 16 overall in the SI99, led the Mustangs to their first-ever state title, posting 25 points, five rebounds and five assists in the win earlier this month.

Sallis will slide right into the controls for the Bulldogs next season with Jalen Suggs expected to declare for the NBA Draft once the college season concludes.

Suggs is projected to be a top five pick this year.

Sallis has a similar skill-set to Suggs, a gifted scorer at all three levels, who competes at a high level and has a hoops IQ that reads off the charts.

The 6-foot-4 guard made big strides as a playmaker this season at Millard North, mostly with his ability to make his teammates better more consistently, while finding balance with calling his own number.

Sallis joins Battle Ground (Wis.) center Kaden Perry to form the Bulldogs’ 2021 haul to this point, but Mark Few and Co. are strong with the top player in the SI99 Chet Holmgren, a 7-1, all-everything player who plays and defends every position on the floor.
