The Weekend Preview: Your weekly list of things to do, eat, watch, and buy for October 17th

This has been a long week for everyone. From the emotional rollercoaster of the Royals' ALCS win to Ebola scares to Apple announcements you don't quite understand, you're probably exhausted. So this weekend, you can kick back and relax with all the cool plans we've made for you. You're welcome.

. The Bro Show

Friday thru Sunday | Denver, CO

Denver’s The Bro Show is a celebration of all things stereotypically male. The three-day convention at the Denver Mart prominently features all kinds of dude stuff, centering around beer, sports, and meat. There will be MMA fights, golf workshops, beer pong, tons of food vendors, and a 1,000 square-foot Man Cave. Interested in these events, but you’re a woman? Go anyway! As far as I’m concerned, “bro” is a gender-neutral pronoun.

. Treasure Island MUSIC Festival

Saturday thru Sunday | San Francisco, CA

This music festival sets itself apart from the rest (literally) by being held on Treasure Island smack dab in the middle of the San Francisco Bay. Now in its eighth year, the lineup features Zedd, Massive Attack, The New Pornographers, Banks, Janelle Monáe, and OutKast (who are apparently determined to play every music festival this year). What could be more fun than being surrounded by a bunch of drunk idiots on an island you can’t escape?

. Grovetoberfest

Saturday | Miami, FL

As you’re probably aware, Miami doesn’t really suffer the horrible effects of winter. They manage to avoid the bitter cold, the 23-hours of darkness per day, and the ubiquitous Ugg boots. But that means they also skip fall, which means they skip Oktoberfest, right? Wrong! Miami decided they couldn’t let us have anything nice to ourselves, so they’ve co-opted it into Grovetoberfest. “With contests, VIP options, beer/food pairing demos, and a free sexy fantasy photo lounge, this event is the way Miami celebrates fall.” All right, Miami. You don’t need to be a jerk about it.

. Sriracha festival

Sunday | Los Angeles, CA

Finally, a festival dedicated to celebrating the most important thing in the entire world – Sriracha. Vendors will sell Sriracha-themed foods (including desserts, people!). If you’re a wuss and you can’t handle the spiciness, fear not – there will be plenty of beer to cool the burn. This is probably the closest thing to heaven on Earth that we’ve got, so enjoy it.

. Burgers n Bombs

Wolfgang Puck | $17

You know our Concession Item Of The Week column is full of the most insane culinary combinations that anyone has ever come up with, but now we’ve got an expert to back up the deliciousness. Big-deal professional chef Wolfgang Puck created this drool-worthy cheeseburger for the Rose Bowl. You can find out more right here.

. $3 Royals burger

Westport Flea Market | Kansas City, MO

. What'cha got

Sunday 10:30 | ESPN 2

Racing is cool. Soccer is cool. Put 'em together and you've got the DOUBLE COOL new series What'Cha Got, which premieres on ESPN 2 this Sunday. The weekly show features six top MLS players taking a turn behind the wheel of a Lamborghini. Each player puts his best foot forward to make it through a coned, autocross course in the parking lot of a MLS stadium as fast as possible. Every episode will feature a different player, including a peek into his personal garage and footage from his lap on the track.

. Dew Tour: Brooklyn

2:30 Oct 19 | NBC

Hey do you guys remember middle school? Do you? Time to relive your Pac Sun years by tuning into the Dew Tour on NBC. Some of the world’s best skateboarders and BMX riders throw down at the House of Vans Brooklyn on a spectacular street course. I would be willing to bet money that none of them drank Mountain Dew before competing, though.

. Simpsons Treehouse of Horror XXV

Sunday 8:00 | Fox

Look, The Simpsons have the definitive Halloween special every year. You don’t need me to tell you that. The lucky critics who got a sneak peak all universally loved this year’s installment to the classic franchise, so you will too. That’s how opinions work. This year’s episode features ghosts of the original cartoon from the Tracy Ullman Show, so die-hard Simpsons fans, look out for references that you think only you understand.

. This weird Alex Ovechkin music video

Web

Watch this music video with Alex Ovechkin. I think it’s the only time I’ve ever lost a staring contest to YouTube.

. Birdman

Premieres nationwide Friday

Michael Keaton is in a new movie about a washed-up actor who can’t escape the superhero he played in his younger days… and it’s not a documentary. This new film from director Alejandro Iñárritu, which also stars Emma Stone, Edward Norton, and Zach Galifianakis, is one of the most complex and beautifully-shot movies of the year. See it so you can look cool when you talk to your coworkers on Monday. I saw it last month at the Telluride Film Festival. See how cool that makes me sound? You can sound almost as cool if you see it this weekend (I still saw it first, though).

. The Best In The World (At What I Have No Idea)

Chris Jericho | $17.71 | Amazon

If you loved WWE wrestler Chris Jericho in the ring, behind the microphone as part of his band Fozzy, or dancing on Dancing with the Stars, then you’ll love The Best In The World (At What I Have No Idea). He’ll regale you with tales of his trip to Iraq with the USO, the time Mickey Rourke almost tried to beat him up, and the time Shaq kissed him. Funny and engaging even for non-wrestling fans, it’s one of the better professional wrestling autobiographies out there. You can read excerpts right here.

. 'White Men Can't Jump' Nike Air Flight Lite High

Releases Saturday | $110

1992 was a pretty killer year for movies (Google it), and one of the year’s crown jewels was the Wesley Snipes/Woody Harrelson movie White Men Can’t Jump. Now you can live a little more like Wesley Snipes with replicas of the sneakers he wore in the movie. Made of white lever with silver and neon accents, they’re true ‘90s throwbacks, and they’re super rad. No word on Woody Harrelson’s True Detective sneaker line, though.

. Louis Vuitton Punching Bag

Karl Lagerfeld for Louis Vuitton

lol jk it's $175,000. Yes, that's the right number of zeros.

. The Terrible and Wonderful Reasons Why I Run Long Distances

The Oatmeal | $10.74 | Amazon

The funniest website on the internet takes on one of the most frustrating sports in the world, and the results will make you laugh so hard you’ll cry (or maybe that’s because of the blisters on your feet, might wanna check). Anyone who runs, or has ever tried to run, or likes to eat a lot will see a lot of themselves in this book. And if you’re super cheap, you can read most of it for free right here.
