Petition for Kevin Love to be traded 'not meant to be taken seriously'

A Change.org petition for the Cleveland Cavaliers to trade Kevin Love is "not meant to be taken seriously," the initial writer says.

After the Cleveland Cavaliers lost to the Heat in LeBron James' Christmas Day return to Miami, fans are frustrated. The Cavs are 17-11, fifth in the Eastern Conference.

That, of course, isn't bad. But considering the Cavs' preseason title expectations after acquiring James and Kevin Love in the offseason, it certainly isn't great.

Love has been a particular target of scorn. In November, the 6'10 forward admitted he needed "to find myself" after Cleveland opened the season 5-5. Last week, Minnesota Timberwolves coach and GM Flip Saunders said fans "won't forgive" Love for asking to be traded after six seasons with the team. On Christmas, Dwyane Wade embarrassed Love by going right over the top of him for a put-back dunk in the Heat's 101-91 win.

The latest dig? A Change.org petition for the Cavs to trade Love.

Kevin Love is a liability to the city of Cleveland and our team. He robbed us of Andrew Wiggins' talents (which could have helped this team tremendously) and continues to play horribly for the team, leading us to numerous losses. It would be for the best to cut all ties to Mr. Love immediately, as he has obviously not helped our cause for a NBA title. Love is an embarrasment to our city and our team. We would be much better off trading him for numerous pieces, some of who could be instrumental to this city's cause for a NBA title. In short, trade Kevin Love IMMEDIATELY.

Apparently, the petition isn't meant to be taken seriously. It's unclear how the writer's intentions for a "not serious" petition differ from other similar sports petitions that pop up on Change.org from time to time, but Omar El would nevertheless like you to "lighten up now and leave."

Dec 26, 2014 — this obviously blew up a lot so I'll repeat what I said yesterday: THIS PETITION IS A JOKE. If people would stop berating Cleveland fans and treat this for what it is (a joke), that would be great. Christ, people are gullible.

Interestingly enough, the petition was one supporter short at press time of hitting OE's initial goal of 200. After reaching 25 supporters in less than a day -- the petition was published on Friday -- the writer expressed thanks to the early signees. At 100 supporters, OE shared another similar update.

At some point, however, the pressure of more than 100 angry Cavs fans signing must've been too much for the petition to continue in earnest.
