IRS official says the U.S. is 'issuing FIFA a red card'

FIFA was the subject of a massive indictment by the U.S. Department of Justice on Wednesday which saw 14 officials face charges for a variety of fraud and bribery charges.

Several top FIFA officials were indicted by the U.S. Department of Justice on Wednesday for charges including racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering conspiracies.

An operation this big takes a long while to put together, which means IRS official Richard Weber had time to craft the perfect zinger for the press conference, and boy, did he deliver.

While describing the massive nature of the alleged corruption in CONCACAF and CONMEBOL, Weber rolled out an extended metaphor comparing the operation to soccer, saying "this really is the World Cup of Fraud, and today we are issuing FIFA a red card."

It also inspired some quick Photoshop work.

Weber had opened up his portion of the press conference with a different sports metaphor, noting that the IRS, which spoke fourth, was "batting cleanup."
