Watch: Mavs coach Rick Carlisle plays piano at Bruce Hornsby concert

Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle is pretty good on piano.

Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle and singer Bruce Hornsby are good friends.

Carlisle told CBSSports.com last month that the two met in 1987 and that he became an "avid fan" of Hornsby's music. The Mavericks coach calls himself a "novice piano player," but he's been good enough to take a piano solo on Hornsby's songs in the past.

Hornsby, who played piano for The Grateful Dead back in the early 1990s, invited Carlisle to join him on stage at a concert this week.

Carlisle showed off one of his many talents and even seemed quite at ease up there. If the whole NBA coach thing doesn't work out, he just may have a backup plan.
