Karl-Anthony Towns hugs John Calipari after being picked first

After commissioner Adam Silver announced Kentucky's Karl-Anthony Towns as the No. 1 pick, Towns and Kentucky coach John Calipari shared a hug.

The consensus heading into Thursday night's draft was that the Minnesota Timberwolves would select Kentucky's Karl-Anthony Towns with the No. 1 pick.

After commissioner Adam Silver announced what most everyone expected, Towns and Kentucky coach John Calipari shared a hug.

Towns' selection made the Wildcats the first program since 1966 to have three players taken at the top of the draft.

Three other Kentucky players–center Willie Cauley-Stein, power forward Trey Lyles and shooting Devin Booker–joined Towns as lottery picks on Thursday.
