Western Michigan uses onside kick to award player a scholarship

Western Michigan is joining NC State and Notre Dame in the growing trend of surprising walk-ons with scholarships and posting their reactions online.

The Broncos put a clever new twist on the trope by securing Trevor Sweeney’s scholarship papers to a football during an onside kick drill, and sending the ball towards Sweeney, who nearly muffed the catch.

The junior running back eventually secures the ball and is swarmed by the team as he realizes that he has been promoted to a full scholarship player.
