Dwight Howard made his mom cry by joking that he signed with the Utah Jazz

The veteran bigman totally duped his mom into thinking he wasn’t signing with his hometown Hawks.

When Dwight Howard was a free agent this summer, he played a cruel, cruel joke on his poor mother.

Howard, who was born and raised in Atlanta, had made up his mind to accept an offer from his hometown Hawks. He got a hold of his mom to break the news to her, but instead of shooting straight, he made her believe he wasn’t returning home, but rather going all the way to Utah to play for the Jazz.

“I wanted to see her reaction, so I told her, I said, ‘Mom, I got this big contract, $150 million,’” Howard told the Doug Gottlieb Show on Monday. “And she was like, ‘Oh my God, from who?’ I said, ‘Utah Jazz,’ and she started crying. And I said, ‘Mom, sorry. I was just joking. I’m coming home to Atlanta.’ And then she was super happy and my family was super excited.”

A rather funny thing to do to his mother, but a very cruel thing to reveal to Jazz fans out there. How does it feel to be a joke of a consideration from Dwight?

Also, crying? That might be a little excessive. Though I’m sure Dwight’s mother was looking forward to seeing her son often, so I guess it’s somewhat understandable.
