Ex-Fox Sports Analyst Kenny Wallace Reveals Why He Left Network

Former NASCAR racer Kenny Wallace revealed his unlikely, yet relatable reason for leaving Fox Sports.

Wallace, who retired from NASCAR in 2015 after a 25-year career, joined Fox Sports to cover the sport. However, the 59-year-old left the network in 2018—and he revealed why in a Q&A with The Athletic’s Jeff Gluck. 

Gluck asked Wallace a hypothetical question about what he would do if someone watched a video without headphones but with the sound on while waiting for a flight at an airport. To answer, Wallace gave a sneak peek into his mind and why he could no longer handle working for Fox Sports.

“The reason I quit Fox Sports is because of that question,” he said. “The more you go to the airport, the angrier you get. I cannot stand the airport. It’s filth. It’s a bunch of people who want their space, and you’re not going to get it because you’re all piled on top of each other. If I’m traveling every week and I’m one of the traveling NASCAR media, I’m pissed all the time. I despise the airport because everybody’s about themselves.”

Wallace’s decision to step away from the media in order to be happier in his everyday life is both commendable and an amusing reason to be upset with his former job.

As for the hypothetical question, Wallace said he’d either move seats or try to get the person to lower the volume, depending on his mood. However, Wallace won’t ever have to worry about this problem if he never goes to the airport.
