Meet the 2022 SBLive Georgia All-State baseball teams: Druw Jones is player of the year
The Georgia high school baseball season in the books, so it's time to honor the best players in the state with the all-classification SBLive All-State baseball teams.
Here's a look at our first-, second- and third-team all-state selections.
Congratulations to all the honorees!
2022 player of the year
Druw Jones, Wesleyan
Jones didn't rest easy as a senior knowing he was one of the top MLB prospects in the nation. He went off at the plate, on the base paths and even served as a solid pitcher for the Class A Private champion Wesleyan Wolves. Jones put up some eye-popping stats to lift his team to the state championship, hitting .570 with a .675 on-base percentage. Among his 65 hits were 13 homers, seven doubles and three triples. He scored 72 runs, drove in 39 and struck out just nine times while drawing 33 walks, and he stole 32 bases. Oh, and he went 10-1 on the mound. The Baltimore Orioles are on the clock ...
2022 coach of the year
Chris Turco, Pope
Turco helped Pope navigate a tough regular-season schedule and still be at its best during the playoffs. The Greyhounds had one of the most impressive postseason runs in Georgia high school playoff history, going undefeated in the toughest classification in the state this season. The 6A champs completed a 10-0 run through the playoffs, sweeping through Dacula, Effingham County, Evans, Buford and finally Allatoona to hoist the trophy. And it was the Pope alum's first year as head coach after spending 18 years as an assistant. Not bad.
