Look: Isaiah Evans, Duke signee, drops 48 in North Carolina high school basketball playoff upset
One of the most anticipated high school basketball games of the year in North Carolina lived up to the hype, and Isaiah Evans was the main reason why.
Evans, a McDonald’s All-American who is signed to play college basketball at Duke, scored 48 points in North Mecklenburg’s 79-63 playoff win over nationally-ranked Myers Park on Friday.
The five-star forward scored most of his points after North Mecklenburg fell behind 25-15 in the second quarter of the NCHSAA 4A state quarterfinals matchup with Myers Park, the No. 11 team in the SBLive/Sports Illustrated Power 25 national rankings.
Evans put up 35 points in the second half, including a 21-point outburst in the third quarter to help the Vikings take over the game and build a comfortable lead on the scoreboard.
If he didn't foul out with just over a minute to go in the game, he likely would have reached 50 points in one of, if not the biggest game of his high school career.
With its take down of a star-studded Myers Park squad, North Mecklenburg advanced to the semifinals of the NCHSAA 4A state tournament and will play Lake Norman.
Evans, a 6-foot-6 small forward, is the nation's No. 3 recruit at his position and No. 14 player overall in the class of 2024, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
