The quality of quarterback play in Tennessee was on full display in the 2023 season in every classification. 

That’s because the state is filled with signal callers who can change games with either their arms, legs or both.

There’s no shortage of talented quarterbacks in Tennessee, which makes it hard to pick just one as the best in the area. 

So here at SBLive Sports Tennessee, we’re asking you, the fans, to decide. 

Vote now on who is the top returning quarterback in Tennessee for 2024. Voting closes July 31st, 2024.

Editor’s note: Our corresponding poll is intended to be fun, and we do not set limits on how many times a fan can vote during the competition. This poll is specifically for fans to vote on the players that have been nominated and in no way discredits any other players who may not be mentioned in our poll.

Here are the nominations: 

Austin Kelley, Jackson Christian: Kelley blew up the stat sheet last season for Jackson Christian. The Eagles’ quarterback completed 167-of-247 passes for 2,809 yards, 40 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. 

Jayden Neal, Knoxville Catholic: Playing for one of the state’s top programs, Neal proved he’s setup for a big senior year this fall. Neal finished 2023 completing 235-of-359 passes for 2,973 yards and 29 touchdowns. 

Chandler Day, Houston: There’s no doubting that Day was one of the Volunteer State’s top passers from a season ago. The Mustangs’ quarterback completed 146-of-241 passes for 2,479 and 34 touchdowns. 

Cooper Vailes, Trinity Christian Academy: Taking care of the football was at the top of the list for Vailes when it came to what stood out on the stat sheet. The quarterback threw for 1,902 yards, 27 touchdowns and just two interceptions. 

Kelvin Perkins, Southwind: Perkins ended the 2023 season with some of the best numbers of any Tennessee high school quarterback, regardless of class. The signal caller threw for 2,860 yards, 46 touchdowns and just a mere two interceptions. 

Jared Curtis, Nashville Christian: The two-way player for the Eagles produced some solid numbers under center. Curtis completed 180-of-321 passes for 2,522 yards and 25 touchdowns. 

Jackson Stroup, Gallatin: Ball protection along with production was the name of the game for Stroup last fall. The Gallatin quarterback finished throwing for 2,410 yards, 25 touchdowns and just three picks. 

Cooper Newman, Sevier County: The signal caller ended up completing 136-of-235 passes for 1,891 yards and 22 touchdowns last season.   

Xavier Murray, White House Heritage: Murray was one of the most efficient freshmen passers this past season, throwing for 1,751 yards, 20 touchdowns and just six interceptions. 

Brett Godwin, Lakeland Preparatory: Godwin was an effective quarterback out of the freshman class in Tennessee. The signal caller completed 147-of-277 passes for 1,663 yards and 16 touchdowns. Also rushed for 309 yards and two scores.
