Angels News: Anthony Rendon's Agent Scott Boras Speaks Out on Injury Update
The status of Anthony Rendon this season has been more confusing and mysterious than an episode of Where In The World is Carmen Sandiego?
The slugging third baseman has been beset by injury throughout the year. The term 'injury' is the operative word here. There's been a strange situation covering up Rendon's status for months now. He's been coy about the situation -- as has the franchise.
Well, we finally got some news on the matter via his agent, Scott Boras:
Rendon reportedly was the one who announced publicly that he had been dealing with a fractured tibia. The franchise had never come out with this information themselves.
The 33-year-old had been very evasive throughout the year when peppered by reporters for information as to why he wasn't playing. Rendon last played on July 4th of this year. At the time, he was hitting..236 with 2 HRs and 22 RBIs. Rendon still is under contract for three more years at $38 million per season.
Boras added more to the story -- which reportedly included the tidbit that Rendon sought medical treatment on his own away from them. That's not exactly a ringing endorsement of the Angels' medical staff.
This has just been a very odd year for the Halos. Rendon's status has constantly been at the forefront of discussion within the team. Not to mention, the futures of both Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout appear to be cloudy at best.
This thing has the chance to unravel at a very fast pace unless the Angels come up with some sort of plan. If Ohtani ends up walking in the offseason, the prudent thing likely would be to flip Trout for younger, cheaper assets to build around.
Rendon's contract remains an albatross, but it's a pill the Angels will have to swallow until he gets healthy/if he ever gets healthy enough again to be a difference-maker.
