Angels News: Phil Nevin Knows Halos Are Still Playing For Each Other
The Los Angeles Angels had what was supposed to be a momentous trade deadline.
After a winning run that saw them close to within just three games of a playoff spot -- and eventually grab starting pitcher Lucas Giolito and others -- all of that momentum has evaporated.
The Halos have lost their last six games and now sit seven games out of playoff position.
With the losses mounting at the worst possible time and a daunting portion of the schedule slated to start on Monday, it looks like it will be difficult for the Angels to get into October.
With all that said, Halos manager Phil Nevin acknowledged that the team is frustrated amidst their most concerning slump.
“It’s a hurting room right now. Everybody wants what’s in front of us. Losses like this in a row are frustrating.” (via J.P. Hoornstra of the Orange County Register)
The Halos are set to play their next 15 games against teams that would be in the playoffs if the postseason started today, beginning with a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants on Monday.
It's an incredibly tough test for a team that can't afford to continue their losing form, but Angels catcher Chad Wallach has faith in the team given the talent they have.
We have a good group,” catcher Chad Wallach said. “Our clubhouse is always pretty lively and with each other. We’ve obviously gone through some stuff ― that stretch right around the All-Star break, we came out and played pretty well close after that. It’s a close-knit group of guys and it’s helped get us through tough situations for sure.” (via the Orange County Register)
Time will tell whether the Angels can turn their fortunes around, but one thing is for certain: They need to start winning -- and doing it now.
