Only a few weeks left in this troubling season...

With the Los Angeles Angels season coming to a close here soon, they are in a familiar spot. Once again, they will be on the outside looking in at the playoff picture after the season, and the long playoff drought continues.

But this year feels different than others because they could see major changes to their roster this offseason. Two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani will be a free agent and is expected to leave the organization. And star outfielder Mike Trout could very well ask for a trade to leave.

It will be an interesting winter for the Angels, but until then, they still have business to attend to. They still have games to be played, and manager Phil Nevin just wants his guys to learn from this experience down the stretch.

“As many games as we can get with our core players and them just being around, it’s a learning experience for all of them,” Nevin said. “The better off we’re gonna be.”

Nevin himself may not be back next season either. He failed to lead them to the postseason, and it has been a troubling year all around for the Halos.

Despite the struggles that this team has seen, the Angels do have some nice young players who could provide the team with something in the future. No matter what happens this offseason, the Halos want to see what these guys can do down the stretch.

It’s great for them to get these extra reps and learn how to go through the day-to-day of being a major league player.

“Although there is still much to see from the young core — notably catcher Logan O’Hoppe, shortstop Zach Neto, reliever Ben Joyce and first baseman Nolan Schanuel — they have displayed glimpses of their bright futures.”,

Per Sarah Valenzuela of The LA Times

While things haven’t gone their way this year, the Angels have kept going. They may only have a few more weeks of Ohtani in their organization, and that alone is worth watching. This will be an offseason to remember for the Halos organization and one that could change the trajectory of the franchise for the foreseeable future.
