A big part of the reason why the Los Angeles Angeles have now taken home two straight series is because Zach Neto has been stepping up to his responsibilities at shortstop and at the plate every time plays.

In 37 games in his rookie season with the Halos, Neto has slashed .266/.333/.411, has an OPS of .744, and just hit his third career home run in Wednesday's win over the Boston Red Sox.

It was one of his three total hits and was actually a three-run homer that brought in Brandon Drury and Chad Wallach and gave LA a big 4-0 lead to to start. The final score would end up being 7-3 but the rookie gave them a nice cushion to start.

Just about a month ago, news broke that Neto would be making his way to the Angels' big league roster after just over 40 games in the minors. Even though fans knew that the future of the franchise would likely rest on his shoulders at some point, they did not think it would be so soon.

Well, he is here and making a name for himself. Between him and Mickey Moniak, there has been a new vibe in LA's clubhouse that everybody should be happy about. I think it's just what the squad needed after two losses to division rivals a couple of weeks ago.

Neto spoke on how he's grown as a hitter already in his short MLB stint.

“I think it’s just swinging at the right pitches and doing damage,” said Neto. “I think I’ve been hitting the ball in front of the plate, so letting it travel a little more, using the other side of the field definitely helps a lot.”

Team manager Phil Nevin has also recognized the adjustments.

“Early on, he was trying to get big and probably wanted to hit one out right away,” said Nevin. “He gets in pull mode. … Now he’s using the whole field. If they pitch him away, he’s gonna take the ball the other way.”
