Angels Rumors: A Potential Suitor Has Emerged in the Mike Trout Trade Sweepstakes

This would be absolutely wild...

While the Los Angeles Angels wait for superstar Shohei Ohtani to make his free agency decision, they have plenty of other roster decisions to make. They want to remain a competitive team for next season, and that means being aggressive this offseason.

But one player that they will need to make a decision about is star outfielder Mike Trout. There has been much speculation that a potential trade of Trout could occur this winter, although one is unlikely at this point.

However, late Friday evening, a bombshell report dropped from MLB insider Hector Gomez saying that a potential suitor had emerged in a possible Trout deal.

Gomez said that the cross-town Los Angeles Dodgers were interested in getting involved in a deal for the Angels star. He also mentioned that they were going to be aggressive in landing Trout, as well as signing Ohtani.

About everyone in the baseball world knows that the Dodgers are the frontrunners to sign Ohtani, but the Trout news is interesting. Maybe the Dodgers want to pair them together again, and they could use the big splash move after falling flat in the postseason once again.

However, the big roadblock to any trade is first the contract of Trout. And secondly, owner Arte Moreno. Moreno would likely rather sell the Angels than move Trout to the Dodgers, no matter how strong of a prospect package the Halos would get back.

LA has the prospects to get a deal done, but the Angels would likely have to pay a good chunk of the salary for Trout. Moreno isn't a big fan of the Dodgers, and he would likely be stubborn in regard to any deal with them. It already likely bothers him that Ohtani could end up there, but to then have Trout go there as well would be tough.

This is certainly an interesting idea, and Gomez has gotten reports correct in the past. It's hard to see this happening this offseason, but you can never count out anything from going down in the sport.
