Former Angels Manager Interviewed by Padres for Open Managerial Spot

In this story:
When the Los Angeles Angels decided to let former manager Phil Nevin go this offseason, there was a question about what was ahead for him in baseball. Nevin is a good baseball mind, but his lack of success with the Halos did leave much to desire.
But it seems that he did enough to at least warrant being considered for one of the better open jobs. Nevin recently interviewed for the open managerial position with the San Diego Padres, and he may have a good chance of landing it.
The Padres formally interviewed Phil Nevin for their managerial opening Wednesday, sources tell me and @Britt_Ghiroli. A.J. Preller said yesterday that an official decision could come by early next week.

Nevin was set up to fail with the Angels in a way, but he didn’t get the job done, which cost him his job. It also seemed like he was never wanted by the front office, and to be fair, they inherited him after they fired former manager Joe Maddon.
If Nevin were to be hired by the Padres, he would have much more talent on the roster than he had with the Halos. That could prove to be the biggest difference in everything, and we could see just the kind of manager he is.
Despite the lack of success with the Angels, Nevin was loved by the players. He connected with them in a way that other managers may not have, and some even pushed for him to return to the team next season.
While things didn’t work out with the Angels, Nevin could be exactly what the Padres need to find success. He brings experience managing star players to the table, and he did what he could with the lack of talent that the Angels had a year ago.
This could be a solid pairing between the two parties, and with them interviewing him this late into the process, they must be interested. Maybe we see Nevin on the opposite side next season, and if so, we wish him luck, except when he plays the Angels.
