Shohei Ohtani Rumors: Surprise Team Enters Conversation for Angels Star

Well this could get interesting now...

Shohei Ohtani Rumors: Surprise Team Enters Conversation for Angels Star

In this story:

It's no secret that the Los Angeles Angels are struggling right now. They've lost 10 of their last 11 games and have seem themselves fall down in the standings. Just a few short weeks ago, the Angels were on the top of the world but it just shows how a few weeks of bad baseball can really doom a season.

With the issues that they've seen, the team has also dealt with a ton of injuries as well. It has been part of the reasons that they've lost games but nonetheless, they have a ton of ground to make up if they want to reach the playoffs.

As the team continues to lose games, the question of whether the Angels should trade away Shohei Ohtani gets louder and louder. Ohtani will be a free agent at the end of the season and will command a $500 million plus contract. Many don't believe that he will remain with the Angels so their best bet may be to trade him.

If he becomes available, teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, New York Yankees and others will be at the doorstep to try and acquire his services. However, we may have another team interested if the Angels want to move him and this one is surprising to say the least.

Did anyone have the Colorado Rockies on their bingo card? Because if you did, you deserve a medal or something!

Rockies owner Dick Monfort responded to a fan asking them to go and get Ohtani if he were to become available and to his credit, he acknowledge that it would be a fun get for a few months. Even he knows that the team wouldn't be able to pay Ohtani, nor would it be a viable destination for the superstar player.

Now do I think the Rockies will actually go after Ohtani if the Angels are looking to move him? Not even a little bit but the thought is intriguing.

Colorado is in worse shape than the Angels and the team won't fork over the kinds of assets that it will take to get Ohtani for a three month rental. The Rockies are in last place within the NL West division and have very little hope for contention this season, even with Ohtani.

However, this is a cool topic to discuss and it's cool that Monfort responded to the fan about this proposal, even if it's just for fun.
