Report: New York Mets Closer Edwin Díaz Likely Out for Season

New York Mets closer Edwin Díaz suffered a knee injury on Wednesday night in the World Baseball Classic that will likely sideline him for the entirety of the 2023 MLB season.

It was a hard scene to watch on Wednesday night for baseball fans around the world as New York Mets closer Edwin Díaz suffered an apparent knee injury following Puerto Rico's massive win over the Dominican Republic.

The injury was suffered not on the mound while pitching, but after the victory during the on-field celebration.

According to multiple reports, Díaz suffered a patellar tendon tear with recovery estimated between six to eight months. That means that Díaz is all but out for the entirety of the 2023 MLB season.

It is a huge blow not just for the Mets but for all of baseball as he is an exciting player to watch and has helped grow the game around the world.

It has also introduced criticism from some about the World Baseball Classic and it's importance over that of the health of players and their parent clubs.
