Baker Gives Update on Houston Astros Starter McCullers Jr.

Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker gave an encouraging update on the injury status of starting pitcher Lance McCullers Jr.

Houston Astros starting pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. was shut down last week after experiencing soreness in his throwing arm. McCullers Jr. underwent Tommy John surgery in November of 2018 and since then there has been concern regarding his workload and health.

When he was shutdown McCullers Jr. was undergoing treatment with rest. Manager Dusty Baker gave a promising update on his recovery.

“He’s just getting treatment. He’s feeling pretty good. He’s feeling better.”

Additionally, General Manager Dana Brown also seemed unconcerned about McCullers' by saying he was “not alarmed at all” with his status.

Houston has plenty of starting depth, even with the loss of 2022 Cy Young award winner Justin Verlander. Hunter Brown is slated to take on a larger role this season with the club and even though there is no indication that McCullers Jr. will miss any time, it is a stark reminder of just how important Brown's and others roles will be this season.
