Houston Astros Injury Update: McCullers Jr. and Álvarez

New injury updates regarding Yordan Álvarez and Lance McCullers Jr. have been reported with good news on the horizon.

Houston Astros starting pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. is beginning the process of returning to baseball. McCullers Jr. threw the ball 30 times on Saturday according to Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle

It is a good sign for both the Astros and McCullers Jr. to see him progress. He is slated to miss the beginning of the season but Houston does have Hunter Brown ready to step up. However, Brown is still just a rookie and there isn't much depth behind him.

Getting McCullers Jr. back in short order will be a huge boost to the team.

There was also an update on Yordan Álvarez's injury. Rome also reported that Álvarez was hitting soft toss. After dealing with a nagging hand injury, Álvarez has not played in any spring training games. However, he is adamant he will make the lineup on Opening Day.

Both updates are a step in the right direction for the Astros as they look to be as healthy as they possibly can when they begin their campaign of trying to win another World Series championship in 2023.
