The Houston Astros (5-7) continued their rough start to the season with a whacky loss. This time to the Pittsburgh Pirates (7-4) who completed the walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Starting pitcher Cristian Javier continued his up and down season as he turned in a 6.0 innings, four earned run performance that brought his season ERA to 4.24. It was a terrible outing, but far from what was expected from the man who many had coined the dark horse for the Cy Young award this season.

The offense seemed to fall asleep, but there were signs of life from third baseman Alex Bregman who hit a first inning solo home run. Right fielder Kyle Tucker also continued his torrid streak as he too launched a solo shot in the second inning, his fourth of the season.

The Astros, despite being down 4-2, mounted a rally in the top of the ninth inning to tie the ballgame 4-4.

However, the Pittsburgh Pirates took full advantage of Astros closer Ryan Pressly who gave up a ninth inning three-run home run to Ji Hwan Bae. The Pirates walked it off and Pressly blew a save, a very odd night indeed.

Pressly who is regarded as one of the most steadfast closers in the game came up short in a season where Houston appears to be coming up just short in some of the most bizarre ways.

They will get another chance on Wednesday as they face the Pirates in a getaway game and rubber match. First pitch is set for 11:35 a.m. CT and Jose Urquidy will take the mound.
