Houston Astros Make Interesting Roster Move Ahead of Pivotal Rangers Matchup
The Houston Astros have made a roster change ahead of their matchup against the Texas Rangers on Sunday.
The team announced that they have optioned starter Ronel Blanco and recalled left-handed pitcher Parker Mushinki.
Blanco has compiled a 4.73 ERA over the course of 40.0 innings pitched this season at the MLB level. He has made five starts since June 1 picking up two wins and quality starts over that time.
Mushinki has put together a 3.38 ERA over 18.2 innings at Triple-A Sugar Land this season and has thrown 3.1 innings at the Major League level, giving up two runs in the process.
It's a bit of a head-scratching move as Blanco has been effective in his role this season. However, it could be to get some fresh arms in the bullpen.
Blanco will be eligible to be recalled back to the Major League roster 15 days from Sunday.
The Astros will face the Texas Rangers on Sunday at Globe Life Field.
