Houston Astros Near Bottom In Latest MLB Farm Rankings

The Houston Astros are now ranked near the bottom of MLB's new preseason organizational farm rankings list released.

The Houston Astros are about to try for a repeat as the World Series champions once the 2023 MLB season kicks off in just under a week. However, it's also that time of the year when outlets are releasing their organizational farm system rankings.

Almost as important to building a dynasty as the on-field talent are the prospects waiting in the wings to help the parent club when called upon.

Of all the major outlets that release these rankings, MLB.com is perhaps the most viewed as their releases are what the majority of fans and teams refer to when referencing prospect and farm rankings.

In their preseason list just released, MLB.com ranked the Astros farm system 27 out of 30. This time last year they were dead last, so there has been some improvement.

The system is headed by only one top-100 prospect in Hunter Brown, who will very likely lose prospect status this season.

While the ranking isn't ideal, it is a testament to the Astros in developing and then pushing their homegrown talent to the MLB level. Just like championship teams are prone to do.

Despite the low ranking, Houston does boast some young players in their core that will be around to contribute for a long time.
