The Houston Astros are looking forward getting their first look at outfielder Kenni Gomez during rookie ball action this summer.

MLB.com recently ranked each teams’ top prospect to watch in rookie ball and the site selected Gomez, who hails from Cuba.

MLB.com put the list together, which features one prospect for each team from their rookie league teams in the Arizona Complex League, the Florida Complex League and the Dominican Summer League. All three league began play in early June.

Gomez is actually in his second season of rookie ball. He started his professional career in 2022 with the Astros’ Dominican League summer team. Now, he’s playing for the Astros’ Florida Complex League Astros.

Per MLB.com:

The Astros invested heavily in Cuban prospects on the 2022 international market, including signing Gomez for $775,000. He hit .294/.402/.500 with 10 steals in 37 games during his pro debut in the Dominican Summer League, displaying bat-to-ball skills, plus speed and solid defense in center field.

In 11 FCL at-bats, Gomez is already batting .364 with one home run, four RBI and two stolen bases.

Gomez is already highly regarded in the Astros’ organization. The 18-year-old is already No. 17 in the Astros’ Top 30 prospects per MLB.com. He’s projected as a 2027 MLB call-up. The top of the organization is filled with potential outfield call-ups in the next two seasons — Drew Gilbert, Jacob Melton and Colin Barber.

Gilbert and Barber are both in Double-A while Melton is at High Class-A.
