Altuve Makes Admission About His Future With the Houston Astros

Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve has made an admission regarding his future with the franchise.

Jose Altuve helped guide the Houston Astros to World Series championships in 2017 and ’22. He’s hoping for more parades until his career ends. And Altuve is adamant about playing every remaining season with the Astros. He doesn’t want to be anywhere else. Neither does new general manager Dana Brown, who recently said that he wanted to sign Altuve to a long-term extension.

"I liked when he said that," Altuve told reporters of Brown’s comments. "Obviously, I’ve spent my whole career here and hope to retire here. I think we are on the same page."

The 32-year-old Altuve last signed a five-year, $150 million deal in 2018 and it’s set to expire after the ’24 season. Altuve is an eight-time All-Star as well as the ‘17 American League Most Valuable Player. Altuve hit .300 with 28 home runs, 57 RBI, 103 runs and 18 stolen bases last season. While he scuffled a bit in the postseason (11-for-58), he still came up with some big hits and solid defense throughout. The goal now is to try and capture a third World Series title.

"There’s still a little bit of conversation about what we did last year, but I really think in two more weeks we’re going to focus 100 percent on this year," Altuve said. "What we did last year is amazing. Obviously, everybody wants to win a World Series. It’s not (like) we’re going to forget about it, but we’re going to put it aside a little bit to get ready and prepare the way we would and try to make it happen again this year."
