Will Jose Altuve Be A Houston Astro for Life?

All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve recently told the Houston Chronicle he wants to play until he's 40, and he wants to be a Houston Astro his entire career.

Tom Brady, meet Jose Altuve.

Sure, it's two different sports but it's also two star athletes who will most likely shine well into their 40's.

One has proven so (or at least did prior to a lackluster NFL season last year), while the other has proven to be a solid MLB athlete through the age of 32 and counting.

And one thing is certain: Altuve is not just good, he's great. And he'll be great for years to come.

The All-Star second baseman recently told the Houston Chronicle that he plans to play until he's 40, and he wants to be with the Houston Astros for life.

"I'm 32, and I want to play to 40," Altuve said. "I love what I'm doing right now. I love my game. I enjoy my game... When I go out there and put my uniform on, I really enjoy playing with these guys.

"Hopefully...I can stay here for the rest of my career. Everybody knows it's not up to me. But [it's] something I would love to [do]."

Houston fans would love it too.

The slugger has been on Houston's radar since the age of 16, when most in the Majors said he was too short to even make it in the Pros.

Boy were they wrong.

Altuve made his MLB debut in 2011, and the rest is history.

Over the past decade-plus, the second baseman has become an icon, an All-Star and an all-around role model in the city of Houston and beyond.

This guy is the epitome of what a baseball player should be, and he does it day-in and day-out.

Altuve's overall MLB stats through 12 years as an Astro: a .307 career batting average with 1,935 hits, 696 RBI, 279 stolen bases and 192 homeruns -- just to name a few.

Yes, Houston will be without Altuve to start the 2023 MLB season for the first time in over 10 years, but Astros fans will likely trade that any day to keep the Venezuelan in the organization for eternity.
