Houston Astros fans certainly are familiar with the last name Correa.

Though former standout Carlos Correa now plays for the Minnesota Twins, his younger brother J.C. looks close to contributing for the Astros.

J.C. has been in Minor League camp with chances to showcase his skills in Grapefruit League games.

The 24-year-old prospect isn’t listed among the top 30 but maybe he should be.

Last season at High-A Asheville, J.C. slashed .309/.364/.446 with eight home runs and 64 RBI in 404 at-bats. He played largely at catcher though he has experience at second base and third base.

“This offseason, I put in a lot of work catching and trying to get better,” J.C. told MLB.com’s Brian McTaggart. “That’s what I’m working on mostly in the Minors, but I appreciate the Astros giving me the opportunity to play here with the big league guys and show I can play infield, too. I’m ready for the season."

J.C. played four years at Lamar University but didn’t sign with the Astros until 2020 as an undrafted free agent. J.C. didn’t appear in a professional game until ‘21 because of COVID-19.

“Obviously, I just keep grinding every day and working hard,” J.C. told MLB.com. “I’ll do anything to play at that level. I’ll just keep doing my thing. God has a plan and I know it’s taken me longer, but I’m a hard worker, I’m a grinder. That’s what I’ll do every day.”

Carlos had the same work ethic. So don’t be surprised to see J.C. called up to the Astros sooner rather than later.
