A's Fans Planning Giveaway for Opening Day Boycott

In 2024, A's fans want to stop giving money to owner John Fisher while still getting their point across

Shortly after all 30 MLB owners voted to approve the Oakland A's relocation to Las Vegas, groups of A's fans got to work on how they could make some noise like they did in 2023, but this time around wanted to do so without giving owner John Fisher any money.

Right out of the gate they decided that an actual boycott of Opening Day was in store. Outside of the two reverse boycott games last season, in which fans spread word to show up and chant "sell the team," Opening Day was the highest attended home game of the campaign. 26,805 fans showed up that night, blissfully unaware of what Fisher was planning to announce just a few weeks later.

Based off of the donation of ticket revenue that the A's made during the first reverse boycott game on June 13th, if 2024's Opening Day boycott is successful, it could cost Fisher about $1 million and what could be his biggest gate of the season.

That is the plan of action for the fans heading into next season. Still make headlines, but make the finances even more difficult for Fisher.

Fans will be encouraged to join the boycott of the game in the Coliseum parking lot, but to just walk across Bart ramp to get there so that even the parking fees don't go to the A's owner.

On Saturday, the Oakland 68's announced that they will also be putting on another fan-funded giveaway for the occasion. This time around, the handout will be a three foot by five foot flag with the word "SELL" across it. Like the t-shirts from last season, these flags are sure to grab attention.

The idea is for the Coliseum parking lot to look something like this AI generated image.

A's Opening Day is on March 28th at 7:07 p.m. against the Cleveland Guardians. Flags can be donated for $5 at the 68's website here

The fans said that they had some ideas for 2024, and if this is pulled off, it would be one heck of a way to grab national headlines once again.
