Blue Jays fans got a glimpse at the future Sunday afternoon.

Toronto's top hitting prospect, Austin Martin, took part in Major League Baseball's Futures Game today in Denver, Colorado. The Blue Jays' 2020 first round pick came off the bench and played shortstop for the American League. The AL team rallied late, but lost 8-3 to the National League

Martin worked a seven-pitch walk off Nationals prospect Cade Cavalli in his first at-bat, then blooped an RBI single into right field in the seventh.

Kicking off the 2021 MLB All Star festivities, top prospects from American and National League teams squared off in the annual game celebrating the future of baseball. The 2021 game was just seven innings long and featured 50 of baseballs top prospects. Martin joined Bo Bichette and Nate Pearson as recent representatives of the Blue Jays organization.

Toronto's top hitting prospect was surrounded on the Coors Field turf by some of the league's other top ranked prospects including 32 members of MLB Pipeline's top 100. Batlimore's Adley Rutschman, Detroit's Spencer Torkelson, and Seattle's Jarred Kelenic were some of the top ranked young stars to compete Sunday.

Martin was selected to represent the Jays after a strong first half for Double-A New Hampshire. In 44 games at 3B and CF, Martin slashed .273/.394/.379 with two homers and five stolen bases.

Martin was recently placed in concussion protocol after being hit in the head by a pitch, but cleared protocol after clearance from MLB prior to this weekend's event. New Hampshire's 2021 season continues Tuesday at Hartford, where Martin will likely rejoin Jordan Groshans and Toronto's minor league squad.
