Joakim Soria on IL With Finger Inflammation
Toronto will be without its newest bullpen arm for a little while.
Reliever Joakim Soria was placed on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to August 3) with right middle finger inflammation, the Blue Jays announced before Wednesday's game. Left-handed pitcher Tayler Saucedo was recalled from Triple A Buffalo in a corresponding move.
The Blue Jays acquired Soria on July 30 from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for two players to be named later. The right-hander was excellent in his lone Blue Jays appearance on Monday against Cleveland, pitching a scoreless eighth inning and recording a strikeout.
It's an inconvenient development for the Blue Jays as Soria—whose contract expires at the end of the season—was brought in to help shore up the bullpen for a playoff push in the next two months. Toronto will now have to do without the 37-year-old veteran for at least the next 10 days.
