Braves Briefing: Atlanta clinches the best record in baseball

The Atlanta Braves have the most wins in baseball in 2023.

The Atlanta Braves have done everything a team can do in the regular season. They won the NL East, earned a bye in the postseason, locked up home-field advantage in the National League, and with their win over the Chicago Cubs, they have clinched the best record in baseball regardless of how their series goes with the Washington Nationals.

It's been a while since Atlanta had the best regular season record in the MLB. The last time was in 2003. They tied the Yankees with a 101-61 record. Atlanta's all-time regular season wins record is 106 from the 1998 season. They would need to sweep the Washington Nationals to reach that feat.

NL WIldard Standings

The Atlanta Braves have won the NL East, secured a first-round bye, and earned home-field advantage throughout the playoffs but we're closely watching the Wild Card race as Atlanta will play the winner of the Wild Card series pitting the top two wild card finishers in the Divisional Round.

Dan Strickland led our coverage last night. In his takeaways, he highlighted the home run king, Matt Olson.

"Matt Olson set the Braves franchise record for RBIs in a single season. He already had set the Atlanta Braves record but has now surpassed Eddie Matthews of the 1953 Milwaukee Braves to own the franchise record.

Olson hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to give the Braves an early lead. It was his 54th home run of the season, and RBIs number 135 and 136. Olson continues to lead all of Major League Baseball in home runs in his record-setting season."

What's next for the Atlanta Braves?

Atlanta kicks off the final series of the regular season when the Washington Nationals come to town for a three-game set. Game one is on Friday night at 7:20 PM ET, with Allan Winans taking on Trevor Williams.
