Is This Atlanta Braves Star Actually 'Fast' After An Impressive 2023 Season?
The Atlanta Braves were able to score in different ways in 2023.
From small-ball type outings to the Braves lineup mashing homers regularly, Atlanta's offense showcased a ton of speed.
Was Braves slugger Matt Olson part of that speed? He answered the question on a social media post from Bally, when he read, "Am I fast?"
In the video, Olson details his three triples from the 2023 season. While looking at his final triple of the season, in a game against the Colorado Rockies, the star first baseman had some fun with his breakdown.
"A little head-first slide," Olson said. "I actually look straight into the dugout at Travis (d'Arnaud) after I got that one just to let him know."
Here's the triple, he's right - he looked into the Braves dugout while he was sliding into third.
"I started giving Ozzie (Albies) some crap," Olson said in the video. "Like dude, how do I have more triples than you so I'm in there talking some smack to Ozzie."
Albies would eventually lead the Braves in triples in 2023. The Braves second baseman finished with five triples. ROnald Acuña Jr. was second with three triples last season. Olson, outfielder Michael Harris II, third baseman Austin Riley, and former Braves outfielder Eddie Rosario all had three triples last season.
The difference with Olson is the pop off of the bat. Olson led all of baseball with 54 home runs in 2023. He totaled 172 hits, 127 runs, and 139 RBIs. It's worth noting since speed was the theme of this article, Olson just had one stolen base last year.
