Pitching Matchup for the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday, August 1st
The Atlanta Braves are sending 2023 All-Star Spencer Strider to the mound. 11-3 with a 3.73 ERA in his 21 starts this season, Strider leads all of baseball with 199 strikeouts in his 123 innings. His strikeout rate (14.6 K/9) and winning percentage (.786) lead all of baseball and the National League, respectively. He's never faced the Angels in his career, but three newer members of the Los Angeles roster have hits off of him - 3B Eduardo Escobar is 1-3 with an RBI, 1B CJ Cron is 1-4, and RF Hunter Renfroe is 1-2.
Opposing Atlanta is Patrick Sandoval. The righty is 6-7 with a 4.13 ERA in his 18 starts, having struck out 81 and walked 41 in his 98 innings on the season. He's faced the Braves exactly once in his career, on July 23rd of 2022, and got roughed up for eight hits and five runs in three innings. He walked two with four strikeouts and took the loss as Atlanta defeated the Angels 7-2. No Braves player has homered off of Sandoval, but seven have collected hits. The notable exception? Matt Olson, who is 0-10 lifetime against Sandoval.
