Brewers Make Impressive Stolen Base History in Opening Homestand

In this story:
The Milwaukee Brewers have picked up right where they left off last season, starting 2026 with a 5-1 record and surging to the top of the National League Central yet again. Though there is a lot of time left in the season, it's yet another encouraging start for the Brewers, who keep trucking along even after trading away some big pieces.
The Brewers stole a lot of bases in their first homestand of 2026. In fact, they swiped 15 bags in their first six games.
According to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, that eclipses a mark set in 1992 and sets a record through the first six games of the season.
Brewers make stolen base history in opening homestand

"The Brewers' 15 stolen bases during the opening homestand are the most in franchise history through the first six games of a season, besting the '92 club that went on to lead the Majors and set a franchise record with 256 steals," McCalvy posted on X after Milwaukee's win on Wednesday.
The Brewers won a lot of games last season without hitting for much power. Instead, they found other ways to win. They used their pitching and defense, as well as situational hitting and strong baserunning.
It's still early in the season, but this is an encouraging sign for the Brewers. They are going back to what made them so successful in 2025, and the formula continues to work for a team that doesn't rely heavily on the home run ball.
The Brewers can run the bases very well and win a lot of games because of their strong fundamentals. If they can keep winning games by doing the little things right, they will still be a force to be reckoned with in the National League Central.
Their ability to steal bases helps them stay competitive despite suffering some very big losses. They'll miss Freddy Peralta in their starting rotation, but there are a lot of other ways to win ballgames, and the Brewers continue to show that fundamentals aren't exactly out of style, even in the modern game.
If they keep this pace up, they should be in good shape as the season progresses. They are going back to what made them successful last year, and that should put them in a good position as they try to get back to the NLCS for the second year in a row.
