The Chicago Cubs have been steadfast in saying 2023 was a disappointment.

Despite knocking on the door of postseason after being sellers the previous two years, their goal was to be playing playoff baseball which didn't come to fruition.

After their season ended, the organization talked relentlessly about becoming future contenders and it looks like the first dominoes have fallen on their way to achieving that goal.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported that sources told him the Cubs are parting ways with two of their coaches.

Game strategy coach Craig Driver and bullpen coach Chris Young will not be back with Chicago in 2024.

Heyman did not mention if this decision was made by manager David Ross or if it came from Jed Hoyer and the front office.

Young was hired in 2019 by Ross and was his first hire when he took over the role as manager. Young had previously served as the pitching coach of the Philadelphia Phillies for the 2019 season before being fired following the year.

The Cubs' bullpen was a major reason for their struggles down the stretch of the season despite finishing the year ranked 14th in the MLB with an ERA of 3.85.

Injuries played a major factor in the collapse of the bullpen, but ultimately the struggles of the unit played a heavy role in missing the playoffs.

Driver was hired by Chicago in 2020 after spending two years with the Phillies from 2018-2019.

These moves signal that the front office is taking a hard look at the coaching staff under Ross and even the manager himself.

Despite getting a vote of confidence by the organization heading into 2024, if the Cubs come up short once again next year, they could be looking to move in a different direction.
