It might be feeling like deja vu for the Chicago Cubs at this point in the offseason.

At the beginning, they had their list of targets and weren't able to get a single one of them, resulting in being the only team who hadn't made an addition to their Major League roster.

Then, things heated up for the Cubs.

They landed Shota Imanaga to add to their starting rotation and acquired a star prospect and bullpen piece in one trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Things were looking much better for Chicago as many speculated, including Jed Hoyer himself, that they would have the best late stretch of the offseason out of any team.

However, it seems like things are flipping back to the early part of winter as target after target of theirs are flying off the board.

While there might not have been much overall interest in Josh Hader based on his salary ask, the front office certainly would have liked to add him for the right price. But, he ended up with the Houston Astros.

Robert Stephenson was one of their four targets mentioned, but now, he reportedly will be heading to the Los Angeles Angels according to Jon Heyman of The New York Post.

Jack, or "@Jolly_Olive" of JomBoy Media, reports it's a three-year deal for over $30 million with an option attached.

Stephenson was considered by many to be the best right-handed reliever on the market after he added a cut fastball to his arsenal last season with the Tampa Bay Rays and posted his career-best numbers.

There are still other options for the Cubs to pursue, but as more pieces come off the board, the competition to land the best remaining players will make things more difficult.
