Chicago Cubs Friday Notes: Stroman Makes History, Other Odd Facts

The Chicago Cubs started off their season with a bang and against a divisional rival no less! The Cubs downed the Milwaukee Brewers 4-0 on Opening Day. You couldn't have scripted a more perfect start to the 2023 MLB season.
There were some oddities though throughout the game. The first is that the Cubs have never played a game at Wrigley Field in the month of March. Yes, it's weird but true. So for those of you who made the trip, congratulations on being a part of history!
Speaking of history, ace Marcus Stroman became the first ever pitcher to record a pitch clock violation. Not that it mattered though because he went on to pitch 6.0 scoreless innings of baseball with eight strikeouts. Just fantastic stuff.
And how about the rest of the lineup who put up four runs on a bonafide ace in Corbin Burnes? Dansby Swanson had one of the best Opening Days in his career notching three hits, Mancini recorded an RBI-single, and Ian Happ got a hit and walked twice.
It was just typical move the runners and good, situational baseball. It works and it might just be the brand of baseball this team plays. Which is perfectly fine!
