Chicago Cubs Make Roster Transaction Ahead of Tuesday's Matchup With Padres

The Chicago Cubs have made a roster move ahead of Tuesday night's matchup with the San Diego Padres.

The Chicago Cubs have announced that they have placed center fielder Cody Bellinger on the paternity list and recalled Nelson Velazquez from Triple-A Iowa.

The move comes ahead of their three-game series with the San Diego Padres that begins Tuesday evening at 6:40 p.m. It's a long expected move as Bellinger's girlfriend has been pregnant with their new child.

Bellinger is currently slashing .300/.330/.550 and that production against a team like the Padres will be missed.

Velazquez has four at-bats at the Major League level this season and he has recorded three hits, a double and a home run. He also has added four RBI to his name.

Other names that could have been called up in his place were Christopher Morel and Matt Mervis, but the Cubs elected to go with a little more familiarity in Velazquez or at least early season success at the MLB level.

Bellinger will likely miss the San Diego Padres series as he spends time with his girlfriend and newborn.
