The Chicago Cubs will play the second game of a three-game set Tuesday night at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan, with a chance to clinch a series victory. The Cubs picked up a narrow, 7-6 win over the Detroit Tigers in the series opener Monday night.

Veteran Drew Smyly (9-8, 4.92 ERA) will take the mound and make his first start since August 7. Smyly's 2023 season got off to a strong start, but hit a rough patch in the middle of the season, prompting a demotion from the club's pitching rotation to the bullpen. Smyly logged a 2.60 ERA across 55.1 innings pitched in his first ten starts. In his ensuing 13 appearances, Smyly allowed 50 earned runs over 62.1 innings pitched, good for a 7.22 ERA.

Smyly rejoins the Cubs' rotation, with Marcus Stroman on the Injured List for the foreseeable future, and no timetable provided.

Rookie Reese Olson (2-5, 4.83 ERA) will take the hill for the Tigers, opposite Smyly.

First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. ET.
