Former Cubs Manager Ross Approached About Coaching Role With Yankees

In this story:
Despite the excitement surrounding the Chicago Cubs' decision to make a major splash and hire Craig Counsell to be their next manager, there is still the other side of things.
Manager David Ross, who became a Cubs legend as a player, was out of a job after shockingly being fired despite public support from ownership and the front office.
In a vacuum, Counsell is the better manager, and in professional sports, organizations must do anything possible to give their team the best chance to win.
Still, there are emotions involved in these decisions and Ross and other players have clearly felt that side of things.
Going forward, Ross will have to decide what his next course of action will be. He still wants to coach and will likely be looked at for other jobs in the next cycle.
According to Ken Rosenthal and Brendan Kuty of The Athletic, he had an opportunity to join another organization for 2024 as a bench coach.
"The Yankees indeed approached Ross about replacing Mendoza, who will be the Mets’ new manager. But according to league sources who were granted anonymity in exchange for their candor, Ross would prefer to manage if he immediately jumps back into a uniformed position," they reported.
Ross and New York Yankees' manager Aaron Boone have a relationship. They previously worked together at ESPN before both got into coaching. Boone also helped Ross through his interview process with Chicago in 2019.
It seemed like a logical fit.
However, according to this report, the former Cubs manager wants to jump right back into being the head guy for another team when the opportunity presents itself.
It's unlikely to come next year as the San Diego Padres, Milwaukee Brewers and Houston Astros all seemingly are close to wrapping up their processes.
So, it seems like Ross will be on the sidelines for this upcoming season as he waits for his next opportunity with another organization.
